We get it...
When you had your baby, your first choice was one of the mainstream conventional nappy brands. They’re easy and convenient to buy and often on special.
When you might be suffering from sleep deprivation due to bub waking up every couple of hours, the potential toxicity of nappies isn’t a thing. You are just in survival mode as you learn to parent this awe-inspiring little human.
By chance, you come across non-toxic nappies, and for the first time you realise that there's more to nappies than first thought, and your focus is to provide the kindest most natural environment you can for your baby.
Some nappy brands can contain some of the nasties such as Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), Perfumes, Fragrances and dyes, Adhesive chemicals, Chlorine, Latex, amongst others. These can have negative effects on your baby’s skin and overall health.
Most mummies are not aware that nappies go through a process of chlorine bleaching which has become one of the concerns amongst the World Health especially as Dioxins are classified as “highly toxic” and a known human carcinogen.
You know those little wetness indicator strips on your baby’s nappy? While the wetness indicator offers the convenience of knowing when baby is wet, the strips are actually made out of harmful chemical dye.
That soft smelling new nappy is made to smell like that with the use of 3100 chemicals, a concern that research has now discovered is linked to development issues such as lower IQ and a higher rate of asthma.
Skin is the body’s largest organ and whilst we don’t yet know how quickly and what percentage of chemicals end up in the bloodstream, we do know that many pharmaceuticals are effectively delivered trans-dermally via patches and creams. In the same way, chemicals in personal care products are also absorbed through the skin.
This is alarming as we know Baby’s skin is thinner and therefore more permeable than adult’s skin. Babies are also more heavily exposed to toxins in proportion to their body weight, resulting in an increased vulnerability to exposure to toxins.
When you consider how long babies are in nappies for, and the potential amount of toxic ingredients soaking into their tiny bodies, non-toxic natural nappies start becoming more important than this month’s latest dye-laden print design that very few see.
We want to provide a better choice for your baby’s bottom by making Happy Little Camper your go-to natural baby care brand.
